Would you Spend $66 on a Water Bottle?
I recently spent $66 on a water bottle. That’s crazy right? Maybe not. Let me explain.
First of all, I knew it would make me drink more water. I mean, if you’re gonna dish out that kinda money on anything you better actually use it, and often. This isn’t really a measurable (numbers on paper) benefit for me but as we all know, water works wonders! Its beneficial for virtually every function of your body.
I purchased a 750ml S’Well bottle. It’s light weight, looks cool, and is guaranteed to keep water cold for 24 hours and to keep liquids hot for 12 hours.
Don’t believe it? I didn’t either until I heard all the great reviews on it and tried it for myself, it really does! (Malia (my wonderful girlfriend) works 12 hour shifts at the hospital and it keeps her water cold all day!)
Here, take a seat, let’s get into some numbers.
In the local flyer there’s a deal on for 18, 500ml plastic water bottles for $3.33. Adding on deposit and what not I’ll round that up to $4.00 for simplicities sake.
18 bottles of 500ml. Lets say you decide you want to drink more water and you’re committing to two of these bottles a day.
2 bottles a day with this deal will last you 9 days. Adding that up you’ll need about 3.5 packs of this 18 bottle deal each month. That’s $14 a month, not bad!
Now, if you’ve ever gotten into a friends car (or your own), chances are there are half filled plastic water bottles banging into your feet with each start and stop of the car. Lets take this into account, you drank your first bottle of the day no problem, recycled it. But the next one ended up in the car half-full.
That’s 750ml of water a day. Multiplied by 31 days. That’s about 23 litres of water for $14 a month.
Ever since I got my S’well bottle I’ve been drinking at least 2 bottles a day. Thats 1500ml (1.5L). About 46 litres of water a month! Thats double those 2-a-day plastic bottles.
So, let’s do the math for a 6 month period.
$14/month X 6months = $84
23Litres X 6months = 138Litres
One time payment $66
46Litres X 6months = 276Litres!
You save money over 6 months AND drink twice as much water (an even bigger benefit than saving ~20 dollars).
An added benefit to spending $66 on a water bottle is that over that 6 month period I’m saving over 370 plastic water bottles from being introduced into landfills, or beaches, or parks.
Here’s that math on that
18 water bottles over 9 days. Thats 63 plastic bottles a month. Which, over 6 months, is equal to 378 plastic water bottles (756 a year)!
There you have it! Mathematically and environmentally S’well is the winner! *fireworks*
The quality of the S’well bottle far out performs (as much as a water bottle can perform) any other water bottle purchase I’ve made in the past. Not to mention it’s stylish and and has aesthetic appeal (I’ve got the hand painted wood edition.)
Now, if I could write down a numerical value of the benefits of drinking an extra 1.5L of water a day, in my mind, it would be a very high number.
Drinking more water is a simple step that has major effects for you health and body composition. Whether your goal is fat loss, muscle gain, or having a sharper mind drinking more water will help!
